The international rules of football will be amended from July 1, 2023
The International Football Association Board (IFAB) published on its official page in Twitter a list of changes that will be made to the rules in the 2022/2023 season.
The amendments will come into force on July 1, 2023. In particular, the referees will separately take into account goal celebrations when calculating stoppage time. Goalkeepers will be banned from “demonstrating disrespect for the game and the opponent, that is, distracting a kicking player in a dishonest way.”
In addition, the referees will no longer be required to cancel a goal if extra players appeared on the field at the time of a goal that did not affect the course of the match. A similar situation occurred in the final of the 2022 World Cup, where the national teams of Argentina and France met. At the 108th minute of the confrontation, the Argentine striker Lionel Messi equalized the score (3:3), but at that moment two more team players ran out of the technical area onto the field. In accordance with the current rules of the International Football Federation, the referee could not count this goal.
The main time of the match between Argentina and France ended with the score 2:2. In extra time, the teams scored one more goal each. In the penalty shootout, the Argentines were stronger – 4:2.
