The Referees Commission indefinitely sanctioned the referees of the Brazil-Colombia and Argentina-Brazil games, on dates 13 and 14 of the tie.
The Conmebol Referees Commission announced this Wednesday the indefinite suspension of the Uruguayan referees Andrés Cunha and Esteban Ostojich, besides the chilean Roberto Tobar, by incurring in “Serious errors” during games directed by dates 13 and 14 of the South American qualifier to the Qatar 2022 World Cup.
Cunha directed the match between Argentina and Brazil (0-0) in San Juan, a match in which Ostojich was in charge of the system videoarbitraje (WHERE).
The play that determined the suspension was an action considered “Violent behavior” of Argentine defender Nicolás Otamendi, elbowing Raphinha’s face that produced a cut in the mouth, a situation that “endangered the physical integrity” of the Brazilian and that was not considered for sanction by the referee team.
After the “technical analysis” of the Commission, it was determined that the judges “have made serious and manifest errors in the exercise of their functions in the development of the game ”.
With this, the Commission decided to suspend Cunha and Ostojich “indefinitely in the exercise of their functions in competitions organized by Conmebol ”.

In the same way, the Chilean Tobar was sanctioned., central judge of the game between Brazil and Colombia (1-0) and Sao Paulo, “for not making the corresponding decisions in accordance with current regulations, putting the party’s control at risk”.
In the case of Tobar three moments of the game are cited: Of the “unsportsmanlike indiscipline” actions by Neymar and the “illegal use of the arm” in a play carried out by Colombian Guillermo Cuadrado.
