The Washington Capitals defeated the Chicago Blackhawks in the National Hockey League (NHL) regular season game. This is reported by the correspondent of “Lenta.ru”.

The meeting ended with the score 6:1. A goal and an assist from Russian forward Alexander Ovechkin helped the capital’s team defeat the rivals. As part of Chicago, another Russian, defender Nikita Zaitsev, scored. The goal was his first for the team he joined on February 23 from the Ottawa Senators in a trade.

Ovechkin scored 821 goals in his league career against Chicago. Thus, he reduced the gap from the Canadian Wayne Gretzky in the list of the best NHL snipers to 73 goals. Gretzky managed to hit the opponents’ gates 894 times.

On March 22, the Russian broke another Gretzky record, which had held for 32 years. The 37-year-old forward hit 40 goals in a season for the 13th time in his career. The Canadian managed to do it 12 times.

Ovechkin has been playing in the NHL since 2005. He spent all seasons in North America with Washington. Together with the club, the hockey player won the Stanley Cup in 2018.
