After making history in palm trees, attacking midfielder Gustavo Scarpa has shown himself to be increasingly adapted to Nottingham Forest. This week, the player gave a long interview in English to his new club’s channel in which he revealed a meeting with Palmeiras fans in Premier League games and also told how he has lived the beginning of his journey in Europe.
“I think I saw four or five Palmeiras fans against Fulham. A lot, right? With Palmeiras flags. Against West Ham, a man from Palmeiras brought me biscuits with condensed milk from Brazil”, said the attacking midfielder, who also highlighted the engagement of fans on the English club’s social networks.
“It’s a bit crazy to see Palmeiras fans go on (Nottingham Forest’s) Instagram and say ‘you are taking all our players away’. There are many players from there that I would like to see playing here”, he joked.
Still in the interview with the official Nottingham Forest channel, Gustavo Scarpa recalled how the negotiation took place while he was still at Palmeiras. The player also revealed that he went to get information about the English club as soon as he learned of the interest.
“My manager said there was a Championship team (England’s second division) that was in the playoffs and as soon as he said that I started researching. In the semi-final against Sheffield I already started to watch. I was going to the Palmeiras game and watching the final against Huddersfield. As soon as he won I thought ‘ok, now we’re close’. After a week or two we signed”, recalled the player, who told details of how the dialogue with Palmeiras was during the negotiation with Nottingham Forest.
“Palmeiras wanted to offer me a new contract, but I was very honest with the club. Nothing they offered me would change my mind. If I didn’t come, I would regret it for the rest of my life.”
After five seasons at Palmeiras, Scarpa left the club at the end of his contract. As he signed a pre-contract, Nottingham Forest paid nothing to Verdão, who understood the player’s wishes and understood that he had a sporting gain for his performance.
Leaving Verdão as a star and one of the main names of a historic team, the attacking midfielder still adapts to the English club. Scarpa has nine appearances for Nottingham Forest, six as a starter and three as a substitute.
