The press service of the Blue-White-Blues said that the conflict occurred at a time when the organizers were leading a group of active St. Petersburg fans to a separate podium. They passed by one of Fenerbahce’s home stands, which caused a clash between Turks and Russians. Zenit clarified that at the moment the club’s fans were placed in the guest sector.

A charity friendly match between Fenerbahce and Zenit takes place in Istanbul. All proceeds from this meeting will go to the victims of the earthquake in Turkey.

On February 28, 2022, the International Football Federation and the Union of European Football Associations excluded Russian teams and clubs from international tournaments. Domestic clubs do not play in European competitions, and the Russian team was deprived of the opportunity to compete for reaching the finals of the 2022 World Cup.
