Frenchman Randal Kolo Muani almost became a national hero in the final of the world Cup de 2022. Already in extra time, the striker had a one-on-one chance with goalkeeper Emiliano Martínez, in which the Argentine got the better of it and saved his selection from defeat.
In an interview with the newspaper The Team, Kolo Muani returned to talk about the fateful move, which could have guaranteed the third championship for France. The Eintracht Frankfurt athlete revealed the details of the move and regretted that the ball did not enter.
“It could have changed my life. I would have preferred to leave it in the background, but it happened and it’s the whims of life,” he said. “I’m looking at the play and I see that I have good chances to score, but everything is going very fast on the pitch.”

After the lost goal, the match went to penalties and ended in victory for Argentina. The 24-year-old admitted he can’t get the game out of his head and finds himself thinking of other outcomes for the move.
“It’s not that I’m sad, but I’ll never forget it. I’m not going to lie, I hate it. I could have looked for other solutions, move to Mbappé because he was at a good angle, but now it’s too late”, he concluded.
Despite being marked by the missed goal, Kolo Muani was called up again by coach Didier Deschamps for the next games in France. The team will face Holland and Ireland on the 24th (Friday) and 27th (Monday), for the qualifiers for the Euro Cup.
