German World Cup Champion Mesut Ozil retires at 34
Former Real Madrid football player and world champion in the German national team Mesut Ozil has announced his retirement. The 34-year-old midfielder wrote about this in his Twitter.
“The last weeks and months, having suffered several injuries on top of that, I became more and more aware that it was time to leave the big football arena,” said Ozil. The midfielder thanked his former clubs, coaches and teammates.
Ozil’s last club was Turkish Istanbul Basaksehir. In addition to him, the football player defended the colors of the German Schalke 04 and Werder Bremen, Real Madrid, London Arsenal and Istanbul Fenerbahce.
Together with the German national team, Ozil won the World Cup in 2014, and also became the bronze medalist of the world championship in 2018. Also in the asset of the German football player is the bronze of the European Championships in 2012 and 2016.
