The hockey player scored in the NHL regular season home game against the Columbus Blue Jackets, scoring his 40th goal this season. The pass was intercepted by Columbus defender Nick Blankenburg, from whose stick the puck was poisoned into an empty net. At first, the year was credited to Strome, but a few minutes later it was rewritten to Ovechkin, as it turned out that Strome had not touched the puck.

Ovechkin has been playing in the NHL since 2005. He spent all seasons in North America with Washington. Together with the club, the hockey player won the Stanley Cup in 2018.
