Honorary President of the Russian Football Union (RFU) Vyacheslav Koloskov spoke about the chances of the Russian national team in the play-off matches, where the remaining tickets to the 2022 World Cup in Qatar will be played. He shared his opinion with RIA Novosti.
“Since we are seeded, we are obliged to beat any team that falls to us,” the specialist said. The rivals of Russian footballers at the first stage may be the national teams of Poland, Turkey, Austria, the Czech Republic and North Macedonia. Koloskov stressed that there is no obvious outsider among these teams, so it is impossible to predict who will be easier to play with.
Earlier, sports commentator Dmitry Guberniev said that he regrets not being able to see the match between the football teams of Russia and Ukraine. At the draw, the teams will be scouted into different semi-final pairs.
The Russian national team lost in the final match of the selection and lost the leadership in the group. The team will continue to fight for a ticket to the 2022 World Cup in the play-offs to be held in March. The draw for the upcoming games will take place on 26 November.
