Midfielder Frenkie de Jong and striker Steven Bergwijn were cut from the squad Netherlands for the first games of the Euro 2024 qualifiers, against France and Gibraltar, announced this Monday the Dutch Football Association (KNVB).
“The Barcelona player felt pain in his calf after the game against Real Madrid” on Sunday, KNVB explained about De Jong.
The absence of the midfielder is a hard blow for the ‘Clockwork Orange’: “He is a very important player for the team. He has the quality of few”, admitted the coach of the selection, Ronald Koeman, who summoned Joey Veerman (PSV) to your place.
In turn, Bergwijn (Ajax) “has a knee injury” and will be replaced by Donyell Malen (Borussia Dortmund).
🚨 Frenkie de Jong & Steven Bergwijn will not join Oranje’s training camp in Zeist due to injuries. They will be replaced by Donyell Malen (Borussia Dortmund) & Joey Veerman (PSV).
