The Congress of the International Association of Athletics Federations (World Athletics) extended the suspension of the All-Russian Athletics Federation (ARAF). TASS reports.
According to the source, 126 representatives of national federations spoke in favor of extending sanctions against Russia, 18 delegates voted against, 34 more abstained from voting.
Earlier on November 17, the head of World Athletics Sebastian Coe said that the organization’s council recommends the extension of ARAF’s suspension. In September, World Athletics received € 2.1 million. Part of this amount is due to fines paid to ARAF. The funds received amounted to about 15 percent of the organization’s annual income.
ARAF was suspended in 2015 due to systematic anti-doping rule violations. Restrictions prevent Russian athletes from competing in international competitions without the need to obtain neutral athlete status.
