“My little son was prescribed a diuretic for excess water in his head. His wife gave him, after crushing the tablet in spoons. The question is how it got into my body: either through a spoon, or through some kind of kitchen surface, ”the athlete explained the entry of a prohibited substance into the body. He noted that the doping control at that time was carried out at his home.
Shubenkov stressed that he was able to get an acquittal thanks to a good team of lawyers. “When questions came to me, he immediately answered them, and in such a way that no additional ones appeared. Maybe he could have done it without lawyers, but it was the Olympic year of 2021, it was necessary to solve everything faster in order to go to the Games, ”he shared and called the process a terrible hassle.
The athlete was acquitted in the case of a possible anti-doping rule violation on June 22, 2021. The investigation revealed that the positive doping test was the result of an athlete inadvertently ingesting drug residues used to treat a family member.
Shubenkov is the 2015 world champion in the 110 meters hurdles, the Russian record holder and a three-time European champion at this distance.
