Slutskaya speculated about the lack of money among athletes and called them unhappy

Two-time world figure skating champion Irina Slutskaya spoke about the amount of salaries in sports. Her words are quoted by Komsomolskaya Pravda.

Slutskaya said that the athletes are unhappy, as they feel a lack of money, despite good salaries. “You may be outraged:“ But what about the workers who plow all their lives and earn less than a successful minor athlete ?! ” But, my friends, the athlete’s age is very short, ”the champion reasoned. She emphasized that many athletes do not achieve anything in sports and after the end of their careers they do not have the simplest everyday skills.

The former figure skater was also interested in the significant difference in the financial situation of the athletes. “Why do football players who have not achieved any results earn millions, while champions and prize-winners in other sports do not have advertising contracts or salaries?” Asked Slutskaya. The ex-athlete attributed this difference to the popularity of the sport and the presence of sponsorship contracts.

Earlier, Irina Slutskaya shared her opinion on state payments to athletes for successful performance at the Olympic Games. She reacted positively to the fact that athletes receive 61 thousand dollars for the gold of the Games.
