Aston Martin Spanish pilot Fernando Alonso has lost his podium at the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix due to a fine that could have been his 100th in Formula 1, RIA Novosti reports.
The championship was held on a night city track in Jeddah. First up was Mexican Red Bull driver Sergio Perez, followed by reigning F1 champion Max Verstappen in second, 5.355 seconds back.
Alonso finished third. He took the lead after the start, but served a five-second penalty in the pits for incorrectly positioning the car on the grid during the competition.
On lap 18, his teammate, Canadian Lance Stroll, retired. Also, the Thai pilot Alexander Albon did not finish the race.
In 2022, Dutch Red Bull driver Max Verstappen became Formula 1 World Champion for the second time in a row. On October 9, Verstappen won the Japanese Grand Prix and won the championship ahead of schedule.
