Manchester United beat Fulham this Sunday afternoon at Old Trafford, 3-1, and advanced to the semi-finals of the FA Cup. The team had two more on the field since the middle of the second half, after expulsions from Willian and Mitrovic.
While Fulham was still winning the match, the Brazilian prevented a sure goal from the Red Devils, using his arm on top of the line. The move was reviewed by the referee at VAR, who called the penalty and expelled the striker. Mitrovic, on the other hand, received red for complaining in an acrimonious way about the decision.
With a numerical advantage on the field, it was easy for United to reverse the score and dispatch the opponent from the tournament. The goals were scored by Bruno Fernandes (twice) and Sabitzer.
United now joins Manchester City, Brighton and Sheffield United as the teams qualified for the next stage of the domestic competition. The semi-final matches will be determined by drawing lots.
With the place guaranteed, Erik ten Hag’s team turns its attention to the English Premier League. The team faces Newcastle in their next match, on April 2, after the March FIFA date, at 12:30 pm (BrasÃlia time). Fulham visit Bournemouth on the 1st.
How was the game?
After a truncated start to the game and very few emotions, United only took danger to the opponent’s goal for the first time in the 12th minute. Rashford explored the corridor on the left and reversed for Weghorst, who cleared the marker but shot weakly, without direction.
The Red Devils scared once again only at the 39th minute, in a firm finish by Sabitzer who stopped Leno. At 46 minutes, the team managed to involve the opponent in a good plot at the entrance to the area, but the ball was at the feet of McTominay, who hit poorly.
On the way back from the break, after three minutes, Fulham scared De Gea with a beautiful shot by Willian. The Brazilian left Rashford’s marking behind and hit the corner, but the Spanish goalkeeper palmed it off with his fingertips.
Fulham’s dominance in the final stage did not take long to convert into a ball in the net. With four minutes on the clock, Diop deflected a corner kick in the penalty area and the ball was left with Mitrovic, who pushed for the goal.
The match completely changed after 24 minutes. On the counterattack, Antony activated Sancho, who dribbled past the goalkeeper and kicked into the empty net. On top of the line, Willian prevented the goal, but used his arm. The referee reviewed the move on the var, signaled the penalty and still expelled the Brazilian.
For an acrimonious complaint, Mitrovic also received red and went to the shower earlier. Bruno Fernandes was responsible for putting the ball on the lime mark and converting the charge, tying the duel.
With two more on the pitch, United quickly overturned Fulham’s lead. Sabitzer completed Shaw’s cross, at 31, and turned the scoreboard. Antony almost did not increase the score, after a beautiful individual move. The attacker dribbled past the entire rival defense, including Leno, but was disarmed at the time of the kick.
