Germany announce squad against Peru and Belgium with Muller absent

Germany coach Hansi Flick decided on Friday to drop defenders Niklas Sule and Antonio Rudiger, midfielder Ilkay Gundogan and striker Leroy Sané for the friendlies in late March against Peru and Belgium.

In previous interviews, the coach had announced that he wanted to test new players, adding that he would not call up Thomas Muller, although without closing the doors of Euro-2024, a tournament for which the Germany is already classified for being a hostess.

Muller is joined by veterans Sule, Rudiger, Gundogan and Sané.

Germany will face Peru on March 25th in Mainz and Belgium on March 28th in Cologne.

Among the 24 called up, Flick called up five newcomers: Josha Vagnoman, Marius Wolf, Mergim Berisha, Kevin Schade and Felix Nmecha.

“It is our duty to find alternatives and expand the group,” said Flick.

Eliminated in the first phase of the 2022 World Cup, for the second consecutive edition after Russia-2018, Germany starts a campaign of 14 friendlies in the next 15 months until Euro-2024 (June 14 to July 14).

Of the 26 squad for Qatar, 11 will not be present in next week’s squad, four injured and seven due to technical decision.
