US coach avoids talking about disappointment after draw

With a lackluster performance, the United States suffered to guarantee this Tuesday the 1-1 draw against Jamaica, in Kingston, for the Concacaf Qualifiers for the 2022 World Cup.

The American team opened the scoring at Kingston National Stadium through Tim Weah in the 11th minute, but Michail Antonio tied in the 23rd for Jamaica, who occupies the sixth place, with 7 points.

With no standouts such as the injured Sergiño Dest (Barcelona) and sanctioned Weston McKennie (Juventus), the Americans failed to take advantage of the momentum after their victory over Mexico on Friday and came close to losing to Jamaica, who had big chances in the second time.

“We don’t see it as a disappointing result, but as a good result. As long as we manage to get a point away from home, it’s a good result in the qualifiers,” said US coach Gregg Berhalter.

“The conditions weren’t easy. That’s what happens when we play away from home,” Weah said after the match. “But it’s a point that moves us forward and we feel good,” he amended.

US national team star Christian Pulisic (Chelsea), who is still catching up with an ankle injury, entered the second half, but this time could not be the team’s savior as he had been against Mexico when he scored the first goal.
