At a conference held this Tuesday in Kigali (Rwanda), FIFA announced the date of the new Club World Cup, which will be played in a different format than the previous ones. The tournament is scheduled for June 2025, with 32 teams and taking place every four years, just like the World Cup.

The other two places will still be defined by the confederation.
In all, Uefa will have 12 places for the tournament, also prioritizing the continental champions of the four years that preceded the competition. With that, Chelsea and Real Madrid are two other teams that are guaranteed in 2025.

AFC (Asia), CAF (Africa) and Concacaf (North and Central America) will each have four direct seats, while OFC (Oceania) will only have one. In addition, FIFA announced that the host country will also have a guaranteed place in the tournament.
The Club World Cup in its current format will have its last edition at the end of 2023. However, the highest football entity is still studying a new competition so that teams from different parts of the planet continue to face each other annually. The new championship is scheduled for 2024, but there is still no information about its configuration.
This is not the first time FIFA has planned to hold the World Cup in a new format. President Gianni Infantino already intended to carry out the competition in a similar way, with more clubs and a greater periodicity. However, the tournament had not yet left the drawing board and had been postponed since 2021.
