The head coach of the Russian national hockey team Alexei Zhamnov headed Spartak
The head coach of the Russian national hockey team Alexei Zhamnov headed the Moscow “Spartak”. This was reported on the club’s website.
“I am grateful to the club management for their trust and the offer to head Spartak, a club with a rich history and a huge number of fans,” Zhamnov commented on the appointment. The coach noted that he sees an advantage in the fact that there are many young and promising hockey players in the club’s system.
Since 2021, Zhamnov has been leading the Russian national team. Under the guidance of a specialist, the national team won the silver medals of the 2022 Olympic Games in Beijing. Since February 28, 2022, the Russian team has not taken part in international tournaments due to sanctions from the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF).
In the 2022/2023 season, Spartak failed to reach the playoffs of the Continental Hockey League (KHL). After that, the club announced the departure of head coach Igor Grishin, who had been working since November 2022.
