In busy game, Roma disappoint and lose to Sassuolo at home

This Sunday, Roma received Sassuolo at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome, in the Italian capital, for a match valid for the 26th round of the A league. The match ended with a 4-3 victory for the visitors, thanks to goals from Lauriente (twice), Berardi and Pinamonti. Zalewski, Dybala and Wijnaldum scored for the hosts.

With the defeat, Roma, who visit Lazio in the next round, remain in fifth place in the Italian, with 47 points, and could see Milan – who still play for the round – distance themselves. Sassuolo, which receives Spezia in its next commitment, occupies the 13th place in the table and went to 33 points.

In the 13th minute of the match, Sassuolo opened the scoring after Lauriente took advantage of goalkeeper Ruí Patricio’s rebound inside the area. With almost no time to breathe, Roma saw their opponents’ lead increase five minutes later. Laurinté, again, showed opportunism and pushed the remainder into the net.

With the disadvantage on the scoreboard, Roma went on the attack and managed to counter with Zalewski, who took the first shot and counted on the bounce of the ball to cover the goalkeeper. However, near the end of the first half, defender Kumbulla, from the home team, was expelled after attacking Berardi inside the area. From the penalty spot, Berardi himself doubled the score before the break.

In the second stage, José Mourinho’s team – which is suspended – scored after just five minutes, with a beautiful goal by Dybala after a shot from outside the area. However, even with the support of their fans, the numerical disadvantage influenced negatively and Sassuolo managed to score their fourth goal through Pinamonti. In injury time, Roma scored one more with Wijnaldum, but it was not enough to reverse the setback.
