Elena Vyalbe expressed hope that FIS will move from words to deeds in connection with the admission of Russians
The head of the Russian Ski Racing Federation (FLGR), Elena Vyalbe, turned to the President of the International Ski and Snowboard Federation (FIS), Johan Eliash, in connection with the admission of Russians to competitions. Her words are quoted by RIA Novosti.
Vyalbe said that she welcomes the statements of the head of the FIS, as Eliash bases her judgments on the importance of following the fundamental principles of non-discrimination. “It gives us hope for the best. We hope that the FIS will be able to withstand pressure from the countries we know, and also move from words to deeds, ”she said.
On February 23, Eliash answered a question about the admission of Russian athletes to international tournaments. “Athletes do not choose where to be born, but the situation in Ukraine remains difficult. We want to avoid a split in the sports community,” he said.
Russian skiers miss the season in the international arena due to sanctions imposed on them by the FIS.
