Head of the IIHF Luc Tardif discussed with the IOC the conditions for the admission of Russian hockey players to the 2026 Games
President of the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) Luc Tardif held a meeting with representatives of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) regarding the admission of Russian athletes to tournaments. It is reported by “Sport-Express”.
“The discussion was more about the Olympic Games and the timing of the start of the Olympic qualification. And about the conditions of participation,” he said. The 2026 Games will be held in Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo from 6 to 22 February.
On January 6, Tardif announced that the fate of the Russian teams would be considered at the IIHF congress in Finland. The head of the organization stressed that, among other things, the issue of participation of all teams of Russia and Belarus in the tournaments of the 2023/2024 season will be considered.
On February 28 last year, the IIHF suspended the national teams of Russia and Belarus from participating in competitions under its auspices. Also, Russia was deprived of the right to host the 2023 World Cup and the youth championship.
