Cherchesov called the removal of Russian teams from international tournaments unfair
The former head coach of the Russian national football team Stanislav Cherchesov appreciated the removal of domestic teams from international tournaments. His words are quoted by TASS.
Cherchesov called the situation unfair, but said that one should take it for what it is. “Each club has its own capabilities, goals and history, each club needs to prioritize and move on. Because day X will come, everything will open up and we must be ready for this, and not swing for another year or two, ”the specialist emphasized.
Earlier, several clubs in the Russian Premier League appealed to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) and filed appeals for suspension from European competition. However, their appeals were rejected. Zenit, Sochi, Dynamo and CSKA tried to challenge the non-admission to European tournaments.
On February 28, 2022, the International Football Federation (FIFA) and the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) excluded Russian teams and clubs from international tournaments. Domestic teams do not play in European competitions, and the Russian team was deprived of the opportunity to compete for reaching the finals of the 2022 World Cup.
