Countries that are boycotting the 2023 World Boxing Championship due to the admission of Russians will organize their own tournament. It is reported by Inside the Games.
The head of the New Zealand Boxing Association, Steve Hartley, said that there are already plans to hold men’s competitions in the Netherlands. “In the morning I had a Zoom meeting with representatives of 20 countries of the alliance, and none of these associations is going to take part in any events of the International Boxing Association (IBA) from now on,” the functionary added.
On March 1, the IBA announced that it had opened a disciplinary case against the heads of national federations of countries boycotting the World Cup. The case was opened against the heads of the associations of the United States, Canada, Sweden, the Czech Republic and New Zealand.
On October 5, the IBA allowed boxers from Russia and Belarus to participate in international competitions under the auspices of the organization. Athletes are allowed to compete under national flags, and if they win, the national anthem will be played.
