The fitness expert called the decline in athletic performance a sign of overtraining
Fitness expert Toril Hickman has named eight signs of overtraining. Her words are quoted by USNews.
According to her, one of the main symptoms of exercise fatigue is burnout. In this case, the specialist advises changing the type of training and trying new exercises. Other important signals are reduced athletic performance and appetite, as well as a slow resting heart rate. Hickman warns that if the heart rate drops below the normal value of 60 beats per minute, a doctor should be consulted.
The specialist notes that overtraining can also manifest itself in the appearance of a general feeling of fatigue and insomnia, a weakened immune system and increased stress levels. Hickman elaborates that when overloaded, the body more actively produces the stress hormone cortisol, which affects the psychological state.
Earlier, fitness expert Jay Cardiello spoke about the rules for returning to training after a long break. The specialist suggested starting with yoga or stretching and flexibility exercises twice a week.
