The Government of former president Jail Bolsonaro tried to bring into Brazil illegally jewelry gifted by Saudi Arabia valued at three million dollars.

These jewels were a gift from Saudi Arabia to the then first lady, Michelle Bolsonaro, although they were not previously declared. They also did not pay the corresponding taxes, as reported by the Brazilian newspaper ‘O State of Sao Paulo’.

The goods were seized at the Guarulhos international airport in Sao Paulo. Bolsonaro He tried up to four times to recover them, but was unsuccessful. The agents found the jewelry in the backpack of one of the soldiers who was traveling back to Brazil, and verified that none of the objects had been previously declared upon passing through customs, as required by law.

The only way to recover them would be by paying the obligatory tax for their importation, 50 percent of the value of the good in question, and a fine of 25 percent of the value, for not having declared from the beginning. The other option would be to declare them as “Official gift to the President of the Republic and the First Lady”but the newspaper explains that in this way they would belong to the State of Brazil, not to the Bolsonaros.
