The head of the press service of “Spartak” Zelenov said that Promes deserved Russian citizenship
The head of the press service of Spartak, Dmitry Zelenov, commented on the refusal of the Russian Ministry of Sports to help with the granting of citizenship to the Dutch player of the club Quincy Promes. His words are quoted by Match TV.
The Red-Whites believe that Promes has earned Russian citizenship. “He made a significant contribution to the development of Russian sports, played 200 matches and is on the threshold of the 100th ball for our team,” Zelenov said.
On March 2, it was reported that Promes refused to return to his homeland because of the threat of arrest, as he was suspected in the Netherlands in connection with the Surinamese drug dealer Pete Wortel. According to law enforcement agencies, in 2019, the football player was involved in transporting a consignment of cocaine weighing 400 kilograms.
Promes returned to Spartak on February 25, 2021. Prior to that, he played for the red and white from 2014 to 2018, becoming the champion of Russia and the owner of the country’s Super Cup with the team.
