Manchester City beats Newcastle and continues in search of the leadership of the English

For the 26th round of the English Championship, Manchester City hosted Newcastle and won 2-0 at the Etihad Stadium. Foden and Bernardo Silva scored the winning goals this Saturday.

With 58 points, City now expect Arsenal to stumble against Bournemouth to be closer to the lead. The Premier League runners-up have an away match against Crystal Palace ahead of them, next Saturday (11).

Newcastle, on the other hand, is struggling for a place in the Champions League. Eddie Howie’s men are fifth on 41 points, four behind fourth-placed Tottenham. The club receives Wolverhampton at home on Sunday (12).

The game

Despite Newcastle having the best defense in the league, City only needed 15 minutes to score the first goal. Foden made a beautiful individual play down the side of the field, passed three defenders and hit from the right. The ball deflected off defender Botman and tricked goalkeeper Pope, opening the scoring for the home team.

In the second half, Newcastle grew more in the match and began to take more danger. The visitors’ best chance came in the 19th minute, when Isak struggled with the defense and managed to take the shot, but Ederson got to the Swedish striker’s feet to block the shot.

However, three minutes later, City managed to extend their advantage. Grealish led the ball down the left, Haaland made the pivot and Bernardo Silva shot hard, in the left corner of the goalkeeper, to score the second goal for the Manchester team.
