The head coach of the Russian national football team, Valery Karpin, appreciated the team’s performance in the final round match of the 2022 World Cup qualifying tournament. The specialist took part in the “Comment.Show” broadcast on YouTube.
The 52-year-old admitted that he overestimated the abilities of his team. In his opinion, Russian footballers did not play football in the match against Croatia. “It would be better if we lost 0: 3, but at the same time tried to play football,” said Karpin. He explained that he considers the most terrible thing that his players did not seek to move the ball forward and look for options in the attack.
Karpin stressed that he has no complaints about the attitude and dedication of the wards – according to him, the problems with the game are associated with the fears of the players. Karpin also admitted that he was not sure that he would be able to psychologically prepare the players for the play-offs next spring.
The Russian national team lost in the final match of the selection and lost the leadership in the group. Having finished the qualifying tournament in second place, the Russian team will continue to fight for a ticket to the 2022 World Cup in the play-offs.
