Tournament organizers in Armenia oblige boxer Gassiev to stick Russian flags on his uniform
Boxer Murat Gassiev was ordered to stick the flags of Russia and North Ossetia on his uniform at a tournament in Armenia. It is reported by “Sport-Express”.
On March 3, Gassiev will fight American Mike Balogun for the WBA Intercontinental title in Yerevan. It is clarified that the athlete and his team closed the flags at the request of the host organizers, and not because of the requirements of the World Boxing Association (WBA).
On March 2, the press service of the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports of Armenia reported that Gassiev received an Armenian passport. It was clarified that the boxer was not going to renounce Russian citizenship.
On December 14 last year, the WBA restored Russian and Belarusian athletes in their ratings. Earlier, the International Boxing Association (IBA) allowed Russians and Belarusians to participate in international competitions under national flags.
Gassiev has won 29 fights and one defeat in professional boxing. He scored 22 victories by knockout.
