Versatile midfielder Sergi Roberto has renewed his contract with Barcelona for another year, until June 2024, announced this Friday the club that leads La Liga.
“FC Barcelona and the player Sergi Roberto have reached an agreement to renew his contract until 2024. The release clause is set at 400 million euros (about R$2.2 billion),” explained the Catalan organization in a statement. .
Sergi Roberto’s previous contract ended in June this year.
The 31-year-old is one of the captains of Barcelona, the team he made his debut for in November 2010 after breaking through the youth system in 2006.
He is a training midfielder, but due to his versatility he has been used in different positions. With Barcelona, he played 339 games.
Despite part of the fans criticizing Sergi, coach Xavi Hernández publicly defends the player, as he did recently.
“He always performs, he never complains. He has a spectacular attitude. He’s always criticized and I don’t understand that,” said Xavi.
