RPL matches urged to postpone for the success of the Russian national team in the play-offs

Former coach of the Russian national team and Lokomotiv Yuri Semin shared his opinion on the prospects of the national team in the play-off matches in the fight to reach the 2022 World Cup. His words are quoted by “Championship.com”.

The 74-year-old expert believes that the Russian Premier League (RPL) should meet Valery Karpin’s team halfway and postpone one or two rounds of the national championship. This, as Semin is convinced, will allow the Russian national team to prepare for the play-offs and successfully play in the playoffs of the World Cup qualifying tournament.

According to Semin, the possibility of transferring home championship games is a trump card that must be used. He also urged not to criticize Karpin’s team for the failure in the match against Croatia. He said that the composition of the opponent was superior to the Russians in all positions.

The Russian national team lost to Croatia with a minimum score in the final match of the 2022 World Cup qualifying tournament. The decisive goal was the own goal of the defender of the Russians Fyodor Kudryashov.

After being defeated by Croatia, the Russian national team lost the opportunity to qualify for the 2022 World Cup directly. Karpin’s team will have play-offs. The likely rivals of the Russians in the playoffs have already been determined.
