Stanley Cup Winner Tikkanen Faces Jail Over Tax Fraud
Five-time Stanley Cup winner Esa Tikkanen is under threat of jail due to tax fraud. It is reported by Ilta-Sanomat.
According to the source, the alleged tax evasion took place in Finnish Espoo between May 2015 and September 2019. During the investigation, the court seized 168,000 euros of Tikkanen’s assets.
“We are talking about the taxation of funds received from abroad. I did not commit any crimes, but the tax, of course, thinks differently, ”the 58-year-old Tikkanen is quoted as saying. It is noted that the former hockey player faces from four months to four years in prison.
Tikkanen won the Stanley Cup four times with the Edmonton Oilers, and won one more with the New York Rangers. As part of the national team, the Finn won bronze medals at the World Championships and the Olympic Games.
