The Ecuadorian equestrian team is training at the Quito Tennis and Golf Club for its debut in the Bolivarian Games of Valledupar 2022. The national delegation in this discipline is Juan Sebastián González, Iván Christiansen, Gonzalo Meza, Juan Francisco Garcés and Priscila Simpson.
They train under the direction of the renowned Dutch coach Frank van Helmond, they carry out an arduous, demanding and concentrated training to achieve their goals.
The tricolors practice about six times a week, between one and two hours. Guided by Van Helmond they perform jumping exercises and competition simulations; and in techniques that support improving their performance. The preparation set is a space reserved exclusively for the team.
“The combinations are very well formed, their experience is combined with their skill and this allows them to be a strong team, against the competition. I trust that something great will be achieved in these Bolivarian games”, Van Helmond highlighted.
And Simpson stressed: “We know that it will be a very close competition, that is why our preparation entails a lot of work, our ideal is to bring a medal to our country, so every effort will be worth it.”
Regarding the care of the horses for the Bolivarians, the horses are cared for by specialized veterinarians, who, through examinations and check-ups, verify that they are in perfect condition for their participation. “Their feeding and care are very strict,” explained Simpson.
The tricolors plan to travel for a few days on June 25, the date on which their participation in the Games begins. They will be accompanied by 2 veterinarians and their trainer.
After this event they will get ready for the South American Games to be held in Asunción, Paraguay, from October 1 to 15. (D)
