Fred scores as United beat West Ham to advance to FA Cup quarter-finals

This Wednesday, Manchester United beat West Ham 3-1 in a duel valid for the round of 16 of the FA Cup. At Old Trafford, Benrahma scored for the visitors and Aguerd (own), Garnacho and Fred scored for United. Thus, the home team advanced in the competition.

The team commanded by Erik ten Hag faces Liverpool, at Anfield, this Sunday. The match valid for the 26th round of the English Championship starts at 1:30 pm (Brasília time). West Ham, in turn, duel with Brighton, on Saturday, at 12 noon.

The game

United came close to scoring after just six minutes, with Sabitzer, but Areola appeared well to defend. Shortly after 20 minutes, Michail Antonio was in front of the goal and saw De Gea save his shot, avoiding a clear chance to score. After a table with Benrahma, Paquetá hit from afar and the United goalkeeper defended. In the final stretch, Garnacho took a risk from the edge of the area and sent it over the goal.

At the start of the second half, West Ham came close to scoring. Soucek headed dangerously and De Gea saved it. At 9, the visitors opened the scoring. Emerson received on the left, played to Benrahma inside the area and the player hit the corner of the home goalkeeper.

Casemiro appeared well in attack on two occasions. In the first, the Brazilian defensive midfielder finished low and strong for the goal and Aerola defended. In the other, he even scored, with a header, but after reviewing the VAR, it was annulled, due to offside.

At 36, United reached the draw, with an own goal. Bruno Fernandes crossed in the area after a corner kick and, in an attempt to move away, Aguerd sent it to his own goal. Eight minutes later, Garnacho scored the second, turning for United. Brazilian defensive midfielder Fred scored the third for ten Hag’s team, at 49 minutes, nine minutes after his arrival.

Tottenham knocked out by Sheffield United

Also on the afternoon of this Wednesday, Tottenham were defeated by Sheffield United, by 1 to 0, for the round of 16 of the FA Cup. At the Bramall Lane stadium, Ndiaye scored the only goal of the game in the 34th minute of the second half.
