There is concern among former directors of the Port Authority of Manta (APM) whether there is interest in the fishing and cabotage port being subject to a delegation process, as happened with the international terminal that was concessioned to the Terminal Port of Manta (TPM) in 2017.
In view of this, fifteen persons, including former presidents and former managers of APM, through a statement addressed to Jéssica Guadamud and Rigobert Carvallo, the current president and manager of the board of directors of this state unit, requested a first meeting with the sole purpose of hearing from the current directors of APM- and, the current legal, administrative and operational situation, as well as its immediate future and its articulation with the city.
The signatories of the document that was delivered this Tuesday, February 28 afternoon, are Pablo Larrea, Mario Coello Izquierdo, Jaime Estrada Bonilla, Pablo Rosero, Lucía Fernández, Trajano Andrade Viteri, Nazario Cedeño, Kléver Coronel, Hugo Almeida, José Matute, Raúl Paladins, Federico Ordóñez, Medardo Ángel Silva, Kevin Lazo and Walter Villao.
The port of Manta was awarded to the Chilean Agunsa for 40 years
In the letter addressed to the current officials of the APM, it is stated that the destinations of this institution cannot and should not be defined by market arguments.
It is noted that since the APM, created in 1966, important works have been developed for Manta, such as the river and sanitary sewers for this city, the 4 de Noviembre avenue, the Circunvalación and Puerto-Aeropuerto roads and the scenic promenade.
President Palacio supported the Manta port concession
“The spirit has never been lost that, beyond people, institutions like APM transcend time, just as the importance of this institution in the construction of emblematic works of the city also transcends,” reads part of the press release.
So far, the alleged privatization of the fishing and cabotage port where the fish that is processed in Manta arrives, a city that directly employs about 30 thousand people, has not been announced.
