Former UFC champion Francis Ngannou says he will return to MMA after boxing fights

Former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou has revealed his plans for the future. He spoke about this in an interview with the YouTube channel The Schmo.

“I will definitely return to MMA, but first I will fight according to the rules of boxing. I would prefer to have one boxing match first, and then return, ”said the 36-year-old athlete. He noted that there are already promotions that want to sign him.

Ngannou’s departure from the UFC became known on January 15. The athlete refused to renew the agreement, which was designed for two years and made him the highest paid heavyweight in the history of the organization.

Ngannou won the championship belt against American Stipe Miocic in March 2021. In January 2022, he defended his title for the first time, defeating the Frenchman Cyril Gan, after which he did not enter the octagon due to knee surgery. Ngannou has been with the UFC since 2015. In total, during his career he won 17 victories and suffered three defeats.
