Tarpishchev estimated Medvedev’s chances to return to the first line of the ATP rating

Tarpishchev said that Medvedev is unlikely to be able to return the title of the first racket of the world in 2023

President of the Russian Tennis Federation (RTF) Shamil Tarpischev assessed Daniil Medvedev’s chances to return to the first line of the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) rating. His words are quoted by Metaratings.

Tarpishchev noted that Medvedev is now playing at the level of the top five tennis players in the world. “But in order to remove Novak at the end of the season [Джоковича] from the first line in the ranking, you need to win the Grand Slam tournaments, ”he said and added that it is unlikely that anyone will be able to take the title of the first racket of the world from the Serb in 2023.

In 2023, Medvedev won two titles in a row. First he won the ATP-500 tournament in Rotterdam, then he became the best at the competition in Doha.

In 2022, Medvedev topped the ATP rating for 16 weeks with a break. He set a record among Russian athletes for this indicator.
