Bayern Munich beats Union Berlin in head-to-head and remains at the top of the Bundesliga

In a direct confrontation in the fight for the title of the 2022-2023 season of the German Championship, Bayern Munich showed its strength this Sunday and defeated Union Berlin by 3-0, at the Allianz Arena, in Munich, for the 22nd round. The weekend started with three teams tied at the top and two of them were Munich and Berlin. Bayern are now joined only by Borussia Dortmund, who beat Hoffenheim on Saturday.

The positive result led Bayern Munich to 46 points. The advantage over Borussia Dortmund is on the goal difference – 43 to 18. Union Berlin, which is having an excellent season – is in the round of 16 of the Europa League against Union Saint-Gilloise, from Belgium -, follows with 43 points in the third placement. Still within the classification zone for the next edition of the Champions League is RB Leipzig, with 42.

On the field, Bayern Munich resolved everything in the first half, when they scored all three goals in a 15-minute interval. Striker Choupo-Moting, assisted by Coman, opened the scoring at 31 minutes. Coman himself scored the second, after dribbling past goalkeeper Ronnow, at 40 minutes, and Musiala scored the third at 46 minutes. by Thomas Muller.

The match marked the return of Senegalese striker Sadio Mané to the pitch. He had been injured in early November (a problem with the fibula in his right leg) and underwent surgery, which took him out of the World Cup in Qatar. Mané entered the second half in place of Coman and had a discreet performance.

Also this Sunday, Freiburg received Bayer Leverkusen and wasted the chance to enter the G4. It was tied by 1 to 1 and remained in fifth place, with 41 points. Leverkusen’s rival, in a disappointing campaign, is in 11th place, with 28.

The home team was superior on the field in almost all 90 minutes, but failed in the second half, when they conceded the equalizing goal. Grifo opened the scoring for Freiburg, in the 29th minute of the first stage and Azmoun equalized in the 22nd minute of the second.
