Irina Rodnina criticized RUSADA after appealing against Valieva’s innocence decision

Three-time Olympic champion in figure skating and State Duma deputy Irina Rodnina criticized the Russian Anti-Doping Agency (RUSADA) after appealing the decision of the disciplinary committee to find figure skater Kamila Valieva not guilty of violating anti-doping rules. Her words are quoted by Sport24.

“Recently, it seems to me that the International Olympic Committee (IOC), that the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA), that RUSADA have arranged their races and compete in stupidity, an incorrect assessment of the situation,” Rodnina said. She noted that the final decision in the case of the athlete will still be made by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).

Earlier, on February 24, it became known that CAS registered appeals against the verdict in the Valieva case by the International Skating Union (ISU), WADA and RUSADA. The general director of the organization, Veronika Loginova, explained that the athlete’s side could not prove the complete absence of her guilt.

At the 2022 Olympics, Valieva won gold in the team competition, but the Russian team was not awarded due to a doping scandal with her participation. In the sample of the skater from December 2021, traces of the banned drug trimetazidine were found. At the same time, CAS allowed her to participate in the individual tournament, where she took fourth place.
