The FIDE Council allowed the Russian Chess Federation to move to the Asian Chess Federation
The Council of the International Chess Federation (FIDE) allowed the Russian Chess Federation (CFR) to move to the Asian Chess Federation (ACF). This was reported on the FSR website.
It is noted that the decision was made by FIDE on February 21. At the same time, the final approval of the transition remains with the ACF. The decision will be announced at the Continental Assembly by the delegates of the ACF Summit on February 28th.
The desire of the FSR to perform in Asia was announced in April 2022. At the same time, this decision was unanimously supported at the absentee meeting of the FSR Supervisory Board.
In April-May 2023, the Russian Ian Nepomniachtchi will fight for the world chess crown with the Chinese Ding Liren. The tournament will be held in Astana (Kazakhstan), the domestic player will compete under a neutral flag. The current world champion, Norwegian Magnus Carlsen, refused to defend the title.
