Court rejects bail request for Dani Alves accused of rape
Brazilian soccer player Dani Alves, accused of rape, will not be released on bail. It is reported by Sport.es.
The court rejected the lawyers’ request to release the athlete. Thus, Alves will remain in custody pending trial. A court date has not been announced at this time.
Earlier, Alves explained why he often changed his testimony during the investigation. “The truth is, I wanted to protect this girl. She walked straight towards me. I didn’t touch her,” he said.
On February 10, Alves admitted to having sex with an alleged rape victim. At the same time, the 39-year-old athlete, who was arrested on January 20, insists that the consent was mutual and there was no act of violence on his part. At the same time, doctors confirmed that the girl had injuries indicating resistance.
Alves is the most titled football player in the world. He became the champion of France, Italy, Spain and won the national cups of these countries. As part of the Brazilian national team, the defender won the Olympic Games and the World Youth Championship, and also won the America’s Cup and the Confederations Cup twice each.
