The technician of Liverpoolthe German Jürgen Klopp, admitted this Monday that he recently reviewed the final of the Champions League 2022, which ended with his team losing 1-0 to Real Madridwas “torture”, before the duel with the merengue team in the round of 16 of the current edition.

“We played that final in Paris and I hadn’t seen it since then, until this weekend,” Klopp acknowledged at a press conference. “I understood right away why I didn’t watch it again,” he added with a smile. “It was real torture because we played a good game and we could have won (…) but they scored the decisive goal and we didn’t”, he explained.
This was Liverpool’s fifth defeat in their last six clashes with Real Madrid, plus a draw, but Klopp wants to put the past behind him. “It was six or eight months ago (…) now it’s the same clubs, but different teams and different times, it’s part of history” he summarized.
With five Champions League titles for Real Madrid in the last nine editions and three finals since 2018 for Liverpool, “we have the impression that we have always had one of the teams in the final in recent years (…) so let’s see who will qualify “, added the German.
Klopp also wanted the incidents around the Stade de France ahead of the 2022 final, for which UEFA and French police were held responsible in an independent report, not to affect the match. “Nothing that happened in Paris was Real Madrid’s fault and nothing that happened is the fault of the fans,” recalled the coach.
“Real Madrid fans who come here should be welcomed in the best possible way, walk around the city, go to the pubs, that sort of thing. Take advantage of your stay here and go to one of the most historic places in world football. And then, two very high-level teams will face each other and I don’t think the Paris final is a reason not to enjoy it more”, he concluded.
