UFC Vice President Nowitzki Says There Is No Evidence Against MMA Fighter Islam Makhachev

UFC vice president Jeff Nowitzki has responded to accusations of Russian mixed martial arts (MMA) fighter Islam Makhachev of cheating. His words are quoted by Sportskeeda.

Nowitzki stressed that the Australian Combat Commission (AKE) found no evidence against the athlete. He drew attention to the fact that AKE has a rule that prohibits drips for rehydration of the body. “So it wouldn’t matter the volume of the dropper, it wouldn’t matter if there was a medical prescription,” a UFC spokesman said.

On February 13, New Zealand fighter Dan Hooker revealed that Makhachev went to doctors in Australia to get a drip for dehydration after a weight race, which is against UFC rules. The same claims against the Russian were expressed by his rival Australian Alexander Volkanovski. The American Anti-Doping Agency refused to investigate the allegations against the fighter.

On February 12, Makhachev defeated Volkanovski at UFC 284 by unanimous decision. He defended the organization’s lightweight title for the first time.
