Euskaraz irakurri: Beaskoetxea-Lopez vs Barandika-Lekerika, Winter Serieseseko final handia
This Sunday the Jai Alai pediment in Gernika-Lumo will host the final of the Winter Series between Beaskoetxea-López and Barandika-Lekerika. The championship has generated a great expectation among the pelotazales and the tickets to watch the game live sold out in ten minutes. However, in EITB you can watch the game live on ETB1 and eitb.eus starting at 12:00 noon; can also be heard on Basque Country Irratia and Euskadi Radio.
both couples have traveled a similar path to reach the final. In the group stage they lost a single match and qualified as second in their respective groups for the semifinals. In addition, the defeats were against those who took first place in each of the groups. That is, against the other two couples that qualified for the semifinals.
Barandika and Lekerika they were classified as second in group A. The Gernikarras started the championship in an unbeatable way: at home, on the last Monday of October and winning against last year’s champions. In view of erkiaga and Zabala they won in 3 sets, while the second match didn’t last that long. they beat Urrutia and Aimar, the first couple to be left out of the competition, in two sets (15-8, 15-14). After winning the first two games, it was time for them to face one of the toughest couples in the group stage: Olharan-Basque. So they lost the first game of the championship, and the last one so far.
With all the games played, the home boys were left at the mercy of the others. they needed that Erkiaga-Zabala lost to Olharan-Basque to get through to the semifinals. In the end, that’s how it was, the Gernikarras would find themselves out of the competition at some point: the first set was won by the reigning champions and in the 3rd set, they lost 4-5, giving Barandika and Lekerika a pass to the semifinals.
Unlike Barandika and Lekerika, Beaskoetxea and López they started the Winter Series with defeat. in the match before Goiko and Etcheto they lost in straight sets. To get up from that blow they easily subdued Leke and Minvielle in the 6th day (15-8, 15-5). The striker from Gernika and the defender from Zumaia reached the last game with a win and a loss. After beating the young couple formed by Johan and Del Río in three sets, the finalists ended up looking at the last match of the group: Goiko-Etxeto vs. johan del rio. They needed the victory of Goiko and Etxeto to qualify. That match went to three sets and then those who would end up as group leaders took the victory.
In the semifinals, go ahead
Barandika and Lekerika faced Olharan and Basque in the first semifinal. The Gernikarras easily defeated the leaders of group B in two sets (15-10, 15-8). Beaskoetxea and López, for their part, had more work to defeat Goiko and Etxeto and had to go to the third set (11-15, 15-14, 5-3) for Beaskoetxea to end his professional career with a final.
cousins face to face
The strikers in the final are cousins. That gives a special charm to the game. Diego Beaskoetxea will end his career by playing in the final of the Jai Alai Winter Series, in which he will face his cousin Xabier Barandika at home in the front court. Whatever happens, for the Gernikarras it will undoubtedly be a special and emotional day.
The final will start at 12:00 p.m. and will be offered live by EITB Media in ETB1, eitb.eus, Basque Country Irratia and Euskadi Radio.
