City concedes late draw and sees Arsenal retake the top of the Premier League

Shortly after Arsenal beat Aston Villa in heroic fashion, it was the turn of Manchester City go to the field to face Nottingham Forest, team of ex-Palmeiras Danilo and Scarpa, for English Championship. On the field, Pep Guardiola’s team conceded the tie at the end, 1-1, and saw the rivals regain the top of the competition

Now, City are back in second place, the position they occupied before beating Arsenal themselves last Wednesday. The advantage of the opponent, who occupies the lead with 54 points, is two points. It should also be noted that the Gunners have one game less.

The Manchester team had been ahead on the scoreboard since the 40th minute of the first half and seemed to be on the way to another quiet victory, but saw the result slip away in the final stretch of the last stage, when Chris Wood scored the equalizing goal. Bernardo Silva was the one who scored for City.

The Brazilian Danilo was Forest’s starter, but had a discreet performance and was substituted in the final stage. Scarpa, on the bench, was not even triggered. Star Haaland was also a starter for City, but failed to score this time.

Before the ball rolled, a tribute was made to the Ghanaian Christian Atsu, found dead in the rubble of a building after the strong earthquake in Turkey and Syria, at the beginning of the month. The scene was repeated in other Premier League games.

City, after the frustration, turn their attention to Champions League. The team visits RB Leipzig this Wednesday, at 5 pm (Brasília time), for the first leg of the round of 16 of the tournament. As for the English Championship, the next match is against Bournemouth, in a match scheduled for next Saturday.

How was the game?

The first half was one team, as Ciy kept the ball for most of the period and Forest only scored. The team, however, only reached danger for the first time in the 24th minute, in a final shot by De Bruyne who went wide of Keylor Navas’ goal.

At 32, Rodri tried to head after De Bruyne’s cross, but sent it out. Shortly after, Bernardo Silva took a chance from outside and saw the ball pass close to the goal.

Two minutes later, at 40 minutes, the Portuguese player was successful in finishing. He received it from Grealish, wide of the goal, but amended a first shot to put the ball in the back of the net and open the scoring.

City came back with everything from the break, accumulating three good opportunities in the first ten minutes, two saved by goalkeeper Navas and another saved by defender Felipe. At 21, Haaland unbelievably missed a goal by wasting two very clear chances in the small area.

The team even almost expanded with Gundogan, at 27, in a free kick that exploded in the crossbar. With 37 minutes, it was De Bruyne’s turn to receive a pass from Grealish and hit from outside the area, but once outside.

In the end, the team ended up being punished with the tie suffered in the 40th minute. Forest arrived exchanging passes from the defensive field, Brennan Johnson made a good individual play and found Chris Wood in the small area, who only had the trouble to push into the back of the goal.
