English VAR referee Lee Mason, who failed to correctly check an own goal Arsenal who should have been annulled, will no longer referee in professional football, the entity responsible for arbitration, PGMOL, announced this Friday.
“PGMOL can confirm that video assistance referee Lee Mason has left the organization by mutual consent,” the agency wrote.

After Brentford’s equalizer against Arsenal (1-1) in the 23rd round of the Premier League, Mason had checked whether a previous foul had been committed by a ‘Bees’ player, but not an eventual offside position in the bid.
However, the player who provided the pass for the goal was offside and PGMOL admitted the error a day later, indicating in a statement that the goal had to be disallowed.
