Poland joined the boycott of the World Cup in boxing due to the participation of the Russians with the flag and anthem
Poland joined the boycott of the 2023 World Boxing Championship due to the participation of Russian athletes with a flag and an anthem. It is reported by Sport.pl.
“We are consistent in our actions. We were among the first to decide to boycott the competitions, where the citizens of Russia and Belarus will take part,” said Maciej Demel, Vice President of the Polish Boxing Association.
Earlier it became known that several other European countries, including Sweden, the Czech Republic and the United Kingdom, as well as the United States and Canada, decided to skip the tournament. “Participation in the World Cup will violate not only the sanctions of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), confirmed on February 2, but also the principles of fair play and transparency,” the American team explained their position.
On October 5, the International Boxing Association (IBA) admitted boxers from Russia and Belarus to international competitions under the auspices of the organization. Athletes are allowed to compete under national flags, and if they win, the national anthem will be played.
