Vladislav Tretyak called the death of Ovechkin’s father a great loss for the hockey community
The head of the Russian Hockey Federation (FHR), Vladislav Tretyak, reacted to the death of Mikhail Ovechkin, the father of the Russian striker of the National Hockey League (NHL) Washington Capitals club Alexander Ovechkin. His words are quoted by RIA Novosti.
Tretiak expressed his condolences to the athlete’s family and called his father’s death a great loss for the hockey community. “Ovechkin Sr. was a wonderful person – sincere, kind, open, worthy. A real Russian peasant,” he said.
Ovechkin announced his father’s death earlier on February 15. He thanked the fans for their support and asked not to disturb his family during a difficult period for her.
On January 10, the athlete’s father was hospitalized with an exacerbation of a dissecting aneurysm. During the examination, a malignant neoplasm was found in a 71-year-old man. Three days later, Ovechkin left the location of the “Washington” and flew to Moscow.
