The Iranian, who is president of a sports investment fund, evaluates the club highly for its sound financial management and the construction of a new stadium. Najafi is preparing to approach current Tottenham owner Joe Lewis with a buyout offer.
Interest from the billionaire, who is working with a consortium of investors to structure the offer, could mean more funding for the London team. Tottenham’s last title was won in 2008 and many fans criticize the current management for the lack of cups.
If the purchase is confirmed, Spurs will not be the only English club recently sold. In 2022, businessman Todd Bohely disbursed 4.25 billion euros (R$ 23.73 billion at current exchange rates) to acquire the Chelsea. The Blues were once owned by Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich.
